Rechargeable Hearing Aids
Hearing aid batteries are small and can be difficult to replace due to their size. While Modern Hearing Solutions of Wyoming does supply our patients with a year’s supply of hearing aid batteries when they purchase a new hearing aid, some would prefer to never deal with the tiny batteries.
If you are someone who does not want to deal with constantly swapping hearing aid batteries, you can choose to go with rechargeable hearing aids.
What Are Rechargeable Hearing Aids?
Rechargeable hearing aids are hearing aids with an internal battery that can be recharged by using the correct power source.
All rechargeable hearing aids are in the Behind-The-Ear style of hearing aids, as rechargeable batteries have not been developed for the smaller styles. To charge rechargeable hearing aids, the hearing aids need to be placed into their charging station ports. Thanks to the lithium-ion batteries or silver-zinc batteries now found in rechargeable hearing aids, you can use your hearing aids all day with no worry they will lose power.
Who Should Use Rechargeable Hearing Aids?
Anyone with hearing loss can use rechargeable hearing aids. However, there are some people who these hearing aids can appeal to more than others.
The low-maintenance minded – If you are looking for low-maintenance hearing aids, rechargeable hearing aids are considerably easier to take care of. While you will still need to clean them and keep them safe, you will no longer have to fight batteries and carry spares with you.
The environmentally aware – For those concerned about the wastefulness of disposable batteries, rechargeable hearing aids should appeal. Instead of continually disposing of batteries and their packaging, eco-conscious people will like to simply charge up their hearing aids.
The money savers – While good hearing aid batteries only cost around $10 per pack, the purchase of hearing aid batteries over time can add up. That cost is completely cut out when you choose rechargeable hearing aids.
Brands Which Make Rechargeable Hearing Aids
As part of the hearing services we provide, Modern Hearing Solutions makes sure to stay on top of the latest hearing technology available. While rechargeable hearing aids have been available for a while, the older-style of rechargeable hearing aids did not hold a charge long enough to make them effective.
Now that rechargeable hearing aids are being manufactured with lithium-ion and silver-zinc batteries, this style of hearing aid is efficient enough to be worth recommending.
Many of the best hearing aid manufacturers produce their own rechargeable hearing aids. While we're able to order rechargeable hearing aids from those brands, we typically fit our customers with the new Widex Moment.
These lightweight rechargeable hearing aids use ZeroDelay technology to achieve a completely natural sound. And the lithium-ion embedded batteries mean they're virtually maintenance-free. Other features include:
Bluetooth streaming ability to your favorite devices.
Smartphone app, which allows for fine control over the hearing aids.
Custom program to fit your lifestyle.
Ability to hold a charge all day after charging for 4 hours.
Caring For Your Rechargeable Hearing Aids
There are some special care and consideration which needs to be taken with rechargeable hearing aids which are not necessary when it comes to regular hearing aids. Some of the most important rechargeable hearing aid care steps are:
Do not try to charge your rechargeable hearing aids with anything other than their specific charging station. Using other chargers can cause overload and destroy your hearing aids.
While in our ears, our hearing aids are protected from most temperature issues. But when you charge your hearing aids, the temperature needs to be between 33-104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Avoid overcharging your hearing aids, as this can shorten the battery life. Stick to a full eight hour night of charging for most rechargeable hearing aids unless our hearing specialist says otherwise.
